On apprend sur le site japonais de Ricoh qu'une nouvelle technologie de sauvegarde est actuellement en cours de développement.

Celle-ci offrira une capacité de stockage de 470Go sur un média d'une taille comparable à celle d'un simple CD. (12cm). A titre de comparaison, cela représente la capacité de 100 DVD vierges actuel (4.7Go) ou plus de 720 CD vierges. (650Mo)

Pour atteindre une telle prouesse, cette technologie utilise un système d'enregistrement multicouche 3 dimensionnel.

Ricoh précise que ce type de médias et les "graveurs" idoines ne feront pas leur apparition sur le marché avant 2010.

A noter qu'ils serviront principalement dans le domaine du multimédia et notamment de l'enregistrement de vidéos numériques (télévision, magnétoscopes, caméscopes, etc..)
