PlayStation 2 Shipments Reach 50 Million

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, the Tokyo based parent of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that cumulative world-wide factory shipments of the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system had reached 50 million units.

The breakdown of shipments by region is: (PlayStation 2 Cumulative Shipments by Territory as of January 15, 2003)
• Europe/PAL (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited)16.02 million units
• North America (Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.)21.48 million units
• Japan (Sony Computer Entertainment Japan)*12.53 million units
Worldwide Shipments: 50.03 million units

Since its European launch in November 2000, demand for PlayStation 2 across the SCEE territories has continued to accelerate. Such is the global success of the PlayStation 2 that it has taken under four months for lifetime shipments to increase from the 40 million units reached on September 17th 2002, to the 50 million units announced today. As PlayStation 2 continues to gain worldwide popularity, it has reaffirmed its position as the entertainment platform of choice in homes around the world.
The PlayStation 2 also continues to be the format of choice for discerning software developers and publishers. In addition to the 9,000 PlayStation 2 Software Development Kits (SDK) provided to third party software developers and publishers since launch, more than 1,400 Development Kits were shipped to developers in 2002, demonstrating strong and continued confidence in the platform. With over 1,500 software titles available for the PlayStation 2 worldwide, the continuous flow of ever more exciting and entertaining new titles for PlayStation 2 is guaranteed for the forseeable future.

Les livraisons de PlayStation 2 atteignent 50 Millions d'unités

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, la maison mère basée à Tokyo de Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) a déclaré aujourd'hui avoir vendu 50 millions de PlayStation 2 dans le monde depuis son lancement.

La ventilation des ventes par territoire de vente est le suivant : (Chiffres arrétés au 15 Janvier 2003)
• Europe/PAL (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited)16,02 millions d'unités
• North America (Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.)21,48 millions d'unités
• Japan (Sony Computer Entertainment Japan)*12,53 millions d'unités
Ventes mondiale : 50,03 millions d'unités

Depuis le lancement européen de Novembre 2000, la demande de PlayStation 2 sur le territoire de vente de SCEE n'a jamais cessé d'accélérer. Le succès est tel pour la PlayStation 2 qu'il a sufit de 4 mois pour passer d'un parc de 40 millions d'unité le 17 Septembre 2002 à 50 millions d'unités aujourd'hui. LA PlayStation 2 continue à augmenter son succés, et a réaffirmé sa position de plate-forme de jeu de choix pour les foyers dans le monde.
La PlayStation 2 continue aussi à être le format de choix pour les professionels, développeurs et éditeurs. En plus de 9.000 kits de développement de PlayStation 2 (SDK) fournits aux développeurs et éditeurs depuis le lancement, plus de 1.400 kits ont été livrés en 2002, démontrant la solide confiance qu'ils ont en la plate-forme. Avec plus de 1.500 titres disponibles pour la PlayStation 2 dans le monde, le flot continu de titres de divertissement est garanti pour les ventes futures.
